What we offer

Make Every Contact Count Training (MECC)

For local authorities and their partners

The concept of Making Every Contact Count (MECC) originated in the NHS, but it is not just about health.

People's needs are usually interrelated and complex. For instance, struggling with debts can impact someone's mental health.

We see an opportunity to build on the approach of taking every opportunity to influence citizen’s well-being. However, rather than focusing on one area of need, practitioners/helpers can use the same skills of competence and confidence speaking with residents to focus on building meaningful connections and a relationship with citizens.

By engaging with citizens, listening to what matters to them, building trust and understanding more of their deeper interrelated needs (much of which may not be obvious at first contact) practitioners can better provide the support they need, as well as warmly handing residents over to relevant help (e.g., VCS partners and the NHS) to promote positive health and overall wellbeing.

By the end of this course practitioners/helpers will have:

Improved their skills to have a conversation about what matters most to a citizen

Been upskilled and feel comfortable to build a trusted relationship and explore citizens’ broader needs

Deepening their understanding of potential local avenues to gain help and how to warmly hand residents over to prevent them from having

to tell their story more than once.

A new training programme by Basis

Basis has delivered " core conversations" training in-house, open training and 'train-the-trainer" modules for over 80 organisations, many local authorities but also VCS and Health organisations. "Core conversations" is a critical part of MECC.

The programme is made up of:

2hr online course: An introduction with the main concepts and potential ways to practice

2x half day course (online facilitated or in the room): Detailed practice into the conversations to understand the most pressing needs and offer highly-relevant resources in a way that makes the offer most likely to be taken up.
